Statement of Sen. Loren Legarda on the Quirino Grandstand Hostage-taking Incident last 23 August 2010

Senator Loren Legarda expressed her deep condolence to the families of the victims of the hostage incident yesterday at the Quirino Grandstand.
"I am saddened by the loss of lives of guests of our country who came here to enjoy our famous friendly hospitality and marvel at our rich cultural history."
The Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations is asking the Philippine National Police to speed up the investigation and be transparent in doing so.
There must be a reassessment of the manner with which the 10 – hour strife was handled.
We have to assure not only the entire nation but the entire world that our law enforcement agencies are reliable and the peace and order situation is under control. We must make sure this very unfortunate incident will not happen again and that all agencies concerned must do its utmost to contribute to peace and stability in our country.
