Legarda: PHL Can Lead Global Fight to Achieve Gender Equality

In observance of International Women’s Day, Senator Loren Legarda today said that the Philippines can lead the global effort to achieve gender equality and women empowerment.

Legarda, who authored several of the country’s laws on the protection of women’s rights, said that the Philippines has been consistently at the top tier in the gender equality index, noting that in the Global Gender Gap Report by the World Economic Forum (WEF), the Philippines ranks first in Asia, and always at the top ten countries globally.

Senator Loren Legarda is urging local government units (LGUs) to comply with the law and submit their local climate change action plans (LCCAP) to the Climate Change Commission (CCC).

Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Climate Change and principal author of Republic Act No. 9729 or the Climate Change Act, is upset that as of July 2015, only 584 out or 36 percent of 1,634 cities and municipalities inn the country have LCCAP.

Legarda Reminds Candidates Against Posting Campaign Ads on Trees

Senator Loren Legarda today reminded candidates for the 2016 elections against the posting of campaign materials on trees and other prohibited areas.

“I urge all candidates to embark on a clean campaign. I call on all local government units (LGUs) to take the lead in ensuring that campaign materials are displayed only on common poster areas as prescribed in the law. It should not be posted on trees, heritage buildings, public infrastructure and other properties not assigned as poster areas,” said Legarda.

Loren urges LGUs to submit climate change action plan

SENATOR Loren Legarda has deplored the report that as of July 2015, only 584 out of 1,634 cities and municipalities, or 36 percent, in the country have local climate change action plans.

She urged local government units to comply with Republic Act No. 9729 by submitting their respective LCCAP to the Climate Change Commission (CCC).

“All LGUs should follow the law and have their own local climate action plans,” said Legarda, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Climate Change and principal author of RA 9729 or the Climate Change Act.

Al Gore to focus on PH experience in climate change

Legarda helped Gore and his group organize the Manila leg of the climate training, which was firmed up in December through a phone call between Manila and Paris, where the latter was taking part in the global climate summit.

Legarda on Saturday called on local government units (LGUs) to begin crafting their strategies to address environmental changes, as required by the Climate Change Act.
