Legarda: MSMEs Create More Local Jobs, Promote Inclusive Growth

Senator Loren Legarda today underscored the important role that micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) play in generating jobs throughout the country especially in poor municipalities.

Legarda, principal author of the Magna Carta for MSMEs, issued the statement following results of an online survey conducted by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and JobStreet.com Philippines, showing that three out of four locally employed Filipinos would accept jobs in their home region rather than work in another part of the country.

DENR urged to hire more forest guards amid Mt. Apo fire incident

“It is unfortunate that we have already lost several hectares of forest cover in Mt. Apo due to this fire. It is unfortunate that even our protected areas are not safe from such tragic events,” Senator Loren Legarda said in a press statement.

The senator renewed her call for stronger conservation and security measures on protected areas as, according to reports, more than 100 hectares of forest cover in Mt. Apo have been affected by the fire that was believed to have started last Saturday. The cause of the fire was still unknown.

Senate committee pleads for conservation of forests, protected areas

The Senate climate change committee pressed the national government to conserve the country’s forests and other protected areas as they are vital to improving water levels and food security and, thus, alleviating poverty.

“I express my sympathies to the family of Ben Aniceto. I am deeply saddened by his passing,” said Senator Loren Legarda on the passing of journalist and former ABS-CBN executive Benjamin Aniceto.

“Ben was a distinguished journalist himself but he also gave opportunity to many journalists. He was my first boss post-EDSA Revolution like most ABS-CBN journalists who joined the network when it reopened after the martial law period,” she added.
