Legarda calls for heightened earthquake preparedness

Senator Loren Legarda has renewed her call for “heightened” earthquake preparedness following several tremors that rocked southern Luzon in the past few days.

At least two earthquakes with magnitude 5.6 and 6.0 jolted Batangas and were felt in nearby areas including Metro Manila on Saturday, four days after a 5.5 earthquake also hit the province.

Senator Loren Legarda today renewed her call for heightened earthquake preparedness following several temblors that have hit the country, particularly in Southern Luzon, in the past days.

At least two earthquakes with magnitude 5.6 and 6.0 jolted Batangas and were felt in nearby areas including Metro Manila on Saturday, only four days after a 5.5 earthquake also hit the province. These tremors have caused damages to structures.

Bill seeking reorganization of non-performing state agencies pushed in Senate

Senate Bill No. 1395, “An Act Rightsizing the National Government to Improve Public Service Delivery and for other purposes” which was prepared jointly by the two Senate panels — were authored by Senators Loren Legarda, Vicente Sotto III, Juan Miguel Zubiri, Gregorio Honasan II and Antonio Trillanes IV.

Legarda, head of the Senate finance panel, said the bills have been “considered, studied and deliberated upon and took into consideration the inputs from different government agencies, resource persons and other stakeholders concerned.”
