Senate Approves Magna Carta of the Poor

The Senate has approved on third and final reading the proposed Magna Carta of the Poor, said Senator Loren Legarda, principal author of the bill.

 

“The Magna Carta of the Poor is a measure that promotes inclusive growth by ensuring that the poor are provided with basic services and support to allow them to be part of the country’s development. We also want to strengthen convergence between the government and its basic sectors to fully make its services accessible to the poor,” said Legarda.

Senate Approves Bill Granting Survivorship Benefits to Children, Parents of Deceased Retired Officials of Constitutional Offices

The Senate has approved on third and final reading the proposed bill granting survivorship benefits to dependent children or surviving parents of deceased retired officials of constitutional offices.

 

Legarda, principal author of Senate Bill No. 1917, said that at present, Republic Act No. 10084 only provides benefits to the surviving legitimate spouse of the deceased retired officials of the Commission on Audit (COA), Civil Service Commission (CSC), Commission on Elections (COMELEC), and the Ombudsman.

Senator Loren Legarda invites everyone to visit the Hibla ng Lahing Filipino Travelling Exhibition, featuring “Piña-Seda: Pineapple and Silk Cloths from the Tropics,” at the National Museum of Anthropology in Manila.

 

Legarda, patron of the first permanent textile gallery at the National Museum, said that after travelling to seven destinations abroad—London, Lisbon, Madrid, Washington D.C., New York City, Hawai’i, and Frankfurt—the Hibla ng Lahing Filipino Travelling Exhibition is home until March this year.
