The Senate on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, received Vietnam National Assembly President Vuong Dinh Hue, Members of the Parliament and other high-ranking officials, together with Vietnamese Ambassador to the Philippines Hoang Huy Chung. A resolution was adopted commending the National Assembly of Vietnam for strengthening Philippines-Vietnam inter-parliamentary relations and fostering economic cooperation.

As the Senate deliberated on the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ (DENR) P24.084 billion proposed budget for 2023 at the Plenary, Senate President Pro-Tempore Loren Legarda emphasized the importance of equipping all local government units (LGU) with geohazard and multihazard maps for disaster preparedness and management.
Legarda stressed the loss of lives and livelihood could have been avoided if critical information on incoming natural hazards had been transmitted to local communities.

Senate President Pro-Tempore Loren Legarda today welcomed the new global deal to establish a “loss and damage” facility as compensation for climate vulnerable developing countries, including the Philippines, due to the destruction brought about by climate change, which they did not cause.
The deal was included in the decision adopted by countries at the 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), following two weeks of negotiations in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.
