Legarda Announces the Opening of Likha-an Exhibition

August 15, 2019

Deputy Speaker and Antique Congresswoman Loren Legarda today proudly announced the opening of the Likha-an: Lunduyan ng Tradisyonal na Sining at Kultura on August 15, 2019, at Puerta Real Gardens, Intramuros, Manila.

Likha-an is a partnership among the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Intramuros Administration (IA), and the Office of Hon. Congresswoman Loren Legarda. It aims to serve as a cradle or “lunduyan” for Filipino artists and craftsmen and their knowledge and cultural valuation of traditional arts.

“An important aspect of our being Filipino is our traditional arts. We live in a country that is rich with arts that reflect the way our ancestors lived. They give meaning and explanation to our lives. Now, as the world continues to change and modern technology continues to advance, it is important that we go back to where we came from and bring this together with us,” said Legarda.

“I conceptualized Likha-an as a resource center and repository of Philippine living traditions and I am more than excited to see it come true to life. I want the rest of the Filipino people to see that our traditional arts are also growing and ever-changing,” she added.

There will be lecture-demonstrations (Kayas, Taka, Puni, Inukit na Prutas, Panubok, Buntal hat, Habol at Ukit Papel), exchange of ideas and products in the Kuwentuhan: Meet the GAMABA, and performances featuring TUGMA (Tugtugang Musika Asyatika), BLKD x Calix, Emar Industriya, DJ Nicko, Sama Dance Suite – Sama Dilaut, Handurawan Rondalla, and Komedya ng Parañaque. All activities are free to the public.***
