Legarda Encourages Curators to Apply for Curatorial Intensive Manila

August 20, 2016

The Office of Senator Loren Legarda supports the Independent Curators International (ICI) in its inaugural Curatorial Intensive in Manila this November. This program is sponsored by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), in collaboration with the Metropolitan Museum of Manila.

The Curatorial Intensive is a week-long development program designed to immerse participants in a rigorous program comprising of seminars, presentations, site visits, one-on-one meeting, and round table discussions on the process of developing an idea for an exhibition into a proposal.

Targeting self-motivated individuals, working independently or within institutions, the topics of the seminars range from the pragmatics of exhibition making and funding models, to building working relationships with fellow artists.

“I encourage curators to take hold of this opportunity and apply for the Curatorial Intensive. This will be a chance to expand their horizons and meet other curators who they can collaborate with. This project is one of our efforts to support the arts and culture sector,” said Legarda, a staunch supporter of arts and culture.

As provided in the guidelines prepared by the ICI, the deadline for application is on August 26, 2016. Only 12 to 14 applicants working internationally will be selected to participate in the Curatorial Intensive. The application guidelines require the applicant to have at least three years of curatorial experience. All applications must include a 500-word description of an exhibition idea that he or she would like to develop. This description should outline the proposal concept and any artists under consideration. Also required are a current 250-word biography, a 500-word letter of intent, and a 300-word text that describes a recent curatorial project that has made an impact on the applicant.

The 1,900 USD program fee is waived for all Filipino participants, while generous scholarship packages that subsidize or eliminate the program fees, accommodation and travel costs are available and awarded to foreigners based on merit. Participants are also responsible for covering travel and accommodation expenses. For scholarship applications, a letter of motivation should be attached to the application.
