Legarda Partners with DENR, CCC; Launches Show on Protected Areas

Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda announced today the launch of “PA Talk: Protected Areas for a Protected Future”, a show that will feature the different protected areas all over the country.

Organized by the Biodiversity Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, in partnership with the Office of Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda and the Climate Change Commission, the online webinar, which will be livestreamed via Facebook, will feature the natural wealth of the Philippines and how these areas are being conserved and protected.

The first episode will be on June 22, Monday, 10:00 a.m., launched on the occasion of the 2nd anniversary of the enactment of the Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas System Act of 2018, which Legarda authored. Featured in the first episode are Davao Oriental’s Mt. Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary, which has a bonsai field or “pygmy” forest of 100-year-old trees; Mt. lsarog Natural Park in Camarines Sur, which features a “Vulcan de Agua” whose watershed supplies surrounding cities and towns with rich, clear water; Occidental and Oriental Mindoro’s Mts. Iglit-Baco National Park, as the one and only habitat of the Philippine Tamaraw, the largest wild mammal; the Balinsasayao Twin Lakes Natural Park in Negros Oriental, a geologic wonder with two freshwater lakes over four crisscrossing faults; and the Siargao Island Protected Landscape in Surigao Del Norte, which has the largest contiguous mangrove stand in the country.
