Message of Deputy Speaker and Antique Congresswoman Loren Legarda on National Heroes’ Day

August 26, 2019

In commemoration of National Heroes’ Day, Deputy Speaker and Antique Congresswoman Loren Legarda today urged everyone to stand against the injustices in the country and be their own hero.

“Today, we commemorate our Filipino heroes who sacrificed their lives to bring peace, justice, and independence to the country. We enjoy our rights at present, because they stood up against our oppressors,” said Legarda.

“We can stand against the injustices still prevailing in our society even in the present times. Let us stand for the rights of the poor, deprived, and oppressed, and fight for the rights of those who could not defend themselves because they have less in life,” she stressed.

“We need not die to be a hero. We only need to be a faithful steward of the law, and know and serve our purpose, like what our overseas Filipino workers, athletes and artists, teachers, soldiers, policemen, doctors, nurses and other professionals, volunteers, philanthropists, community leaders, farmers and fisherfolk, and mothers and fathers do,” she continued.

“I encourage everyone to do their part in shaping our nation’s future and be their own hero,” Legarda concluded.***
