Message of Senator Loren Legarda for 2016 Eidul Adha

September 11, 2016

“I join our Muslim brothers and sisters in commemorating the Eidul Adha. I wish for a solemn and meaningful celebration of this important Islamic Feast,” said Senator Loren Legarda, co-author of Republic Act No. 9849, Act Declaring Eidul Adha a National Holiday.

“As the whole nation commemorates this holiday, I urge non-Muslim Filipinos to understand the significance of Eidul Adha to the Islamic Faith and reflect on the virtues that this feast signifies so that we develop deeper respect and understanding among us Filipinos regardless of faith or religious belief,” said Legarda.

The Eidul Adha is also known as the Feast of the Sacrifice. It commemorates Ibrahim’s willingness to obey Allah even to the extent of sacrificing his son. The Muslims see Ibrahim’s act as a demonstration of unswerving devotion to Allah.
